The Health Care industry is perfectly suited to online learning delivery as it encompasses a broad range of training topics, many of which are in-service and regulatory courses required by the US Federal agency Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). While reporting learner performance and results may not be the number one concern in other industries, it certainly is for this compliance-focused one. Plus, a recent Federal Communciations Commission (FCC) found that 99% of health care facilities already have access to a fast broadband connection, which means they are already set up with the primary tool needed to facilitate an online learning program.
Here are a few things that have caught my attention lately:
- A 200% increase in the number of health care industry customers using Litmos in the last 12 months
- Obama's focus on health care reform paired with increased funding for online learning resources
- Over the past 1-2 years I've watched the Red Cross create a comprehensive and successful online training program which is now a US state-specific and country-specific initiative.
- More recently the iPad has caused a stir in health care with the Washington Post claiming it may just revolutionize medicine
